I guess that this problem is also caused by caching or minifying. Please test it in a new, clean installation without caching. Presumably, it will work as it should.
It seems to be doing it even if I completely disable the cashing plugin

You have set the width (%) and the height (to auto), which causes the calculation to no longer work (because of the “auto” value). You can use number values… but not “auto”
