DUPLICATE: Bricks 2.4 beta3 - Import & Export issues

Browser: Chrome 152
OS: Windows 11

Good afternoon, everyone. I’m here to seek advice and help regarding some issues with Bricks 2.4 beta3. I’ll list below with screenshots for visualisation:

  1. Style Manager → Settings → ‘Manage: Import / Export’ is missing

  1. Export Budle → ‘Custom capabilities’ is missing;

It is working in ‘Manage: Import’

  1. Template in ‘Manage: Import’ shows an error due to code and {echo}

https://i.vgy.me/KAkX52.jpg

In template Style Guide: https://i.vgy.me/nwacqv.jpg & https://i.vgy.me/NBiRiY.jpg

  1. I’ve imported Settings, but it didn’t save in General > SVG uploads

and Custom Code > Code execution https://i.vgy.me/uoBp6g.jpg

Can you, please, help me figure out what are the reasons for these issues?

Thank you greatly and have a lovely day.

Hi @arekuki,

These are expected parts of the new import/export workflow:

  1. Style Manager’s own import/export actions are the two icons in the top-right toolbar.

  2. Custom capabilities are managed separately under Bricks → Settings → Builder access, where you can import them, export all capabilities, or export an individual capability. This is why a compatible package can show Custom capabilities during import even though they are not listed in the Builder export bundle.

  3. The template contains executable PHP and an {echo} tag. Bricks blocks executable template imports unless the importing user currently has code-execution permission. Please also check the importing user’s individual profile, as an individual Disabled setting overrides the Administrator role setting. The bricks/code/disable_execution filter can disable it as well.

  4. SVG upload permissions and code-execution settings are security-sensitive, so they are intentionally excluded from exports and must be configured manually on the destination site (you can see the information notice on your second screenshot as well)

If the template still reports the permission error while importing as an Administrator, with code execution enabled and no individual override or disabling filter, please let us know the importing user’s individual Code execution setting.

I hope I answered your questions.

Best regards,
Matej

Good evening, @Matej . Thank you for your help.

About #3 - I’ve tried to turn off “Enable code execution” and “Administrator” in Custom Code > Code execution, but after import there is still an error.
In admin My Templates the import is working.

@Matej

Do you have any ideas about the issue in my above message?
Thank you

Hi Oleksii,
Matej is on vacation this week and won’t be around the whole time, so I’m stepping in for a bit :v:

Turning off “Enable code execution” and the “Administrator” permission will keep this template import blocked.

Please enable both options again and save the settings. Then edit the importing user’s WordPress profile and make sure their individual Code execution setting is not set to Disabled, as that overrides the Administrator role permission.

If the error remains after that, please tell us the exact individual Code execution setting for the importing user and whether your site uses the bricks/code/disable_execution filter.

Hi, @timmse

I double-checked everything you listed: Enable code execution is on, Administrator role has the code execution capability, no individual user override (profile shows “Enabled (Settings)”), and no bricks/code/disable_execution filter active on either site.

Still, the import fails with the same error even in a minimal reproduction: same-site export → import (not cross-site), Admin and Site Enhancements plugin deactivated, and on the Pantheon test site with the parent Bricks theme active (no child theme). The error is consistently:

Current user lacks the "bricks_execute_code" builder permission. | data: {"code":"bricks_forbidden_builder_permission","permission":"bricks_execute_code"}

Since this happens with nothing but core Bricks + WordPress in the loop, could this be a regression in 2.4 beta3’s permission check during import?

Thanks for checking those settings. This matches the bundle-import issue we’ve reproduced and are tracking here: WIP: Import bundle fails with false-positive "Current user lacks the 'bricks_execute_code' builder permission"

For now, you can use the My Templates import that you confirmed works. We’ll update the linked thread once it’s fixed.
