WIP: Visual builder negatively affected in 1.12 update, and issue with template display in builder

Browser: FireFox DE 135.0b5 (64-bit) and Chrome Version 132.0.6834.111 (64-bit)
OS: Windows
Video: Jam

Hey guys,

1.12 update was available this morning from dashboard so I went ahead - presumably it is out of beta if it has appeared here…?

Firstly, thank you for listening and including template display within the builder UI!

BUT the visual builder seems to struggle with weird layout shift due to the inclusion of the template, and doesn’t quite display the template properly in my case. Not sure if this is a problem with my templating or a bug.

Example display of the templated page I’m working on (WIP) here.

And the visual builder experience I have shown in screen recording.

Some issues of note:

  • templated image (Featured Image of the page) does not show up at all (see live page)
  • selecting page elements, containers, blocks is not intuitive due to weird layout shift - see the bounding boxes on hover in the video
  • some elements allow a left-click and some just will not respond to a left-click
  • right-click seems to work to select an element much more reliably for some reason
  • updates to styling (e.g. block padding) are not reflected in the builder until refreshed

I’m using Bricks on pages that feeds into a Bricks page template. I have tried two browsers and have the same results.

Hopefully this is a me issue and not a 1.12 issue because I really would love to keep template display in the builder, and start using components

Cheers,
Tom

Sorry guys, I had to roll back to 1.11.1.1 to demo the builder/site to client without the issues.

If you would like to test the builder within my instance at some stage before it’s live, I (or you, when you login) can re-update to 1.12 temporarily. Hopefully the video is a good start.

Hi @TomLD,

Thank you for all the details! As we’re unable to replicate this issue locally, could you please share temporary admin access to help@bricksbuilder.io? Please include the current forum thread’s URL in your email so we can track it

Thanks @charaf - I’ve just emailed with details.

Let me know if anything else needed for now.

I’m itching to build components for this project and allow the client to use them in visual-builder with templates showing

Hi @TomLD,

Thank you very much for sharing access and the video, actually I was able to replicate the issue with a large enough template so please feel free to revoke access. I have added this to our bug tracker so we can address it.

No worries!

I’ve removed the user account. Presuming you won’t need this again if you can replicate locally.

My template is not that big really - a featured image, a block with title/excerpt, a simple sidebar and a pre-footer CTA. I’m surprised this wasn’t uncovered in beta.

I’d love to be able to use the 1.12.x features ASAP (been waiting for components for a loooong time and I have contributed to the request thread about template display in builder). Please let me know if there is anything I can do to expedite this or if you have a patch handy prior to official release.

Thanks for looking into this promptly.

Unfortunately not yet

Hey @charaf - I see this issue exists in 1.12.1 - following up as I’d really like to be using Components as soon as possible rather than continuing in a workflow I know I won’t use as soon as I can access 1.12.x features without template-display bugs.

You mentioned that you could only replicate this issue once your template was large enough. My template as in the bug report is only featuring a few elements, so I’m interested in any feedback you have about that too.

Hi @TomLD,

As soon as the issue is fixed we’ll make sure to update this forum thread. In the meantime, if showing outer post content elements is less crucial than components for your workflow, you may disable show outer post using this filter temporarily until we release a fix: Filter: bricks/active_templates – Bricks Academy.

Great, thank you!

I will test this out today and hopefully begin to build and roll out some components

Hi Tom,
We fixed this issue in Bricks 1.12.2, now available as a one-click update in your WordPress Dashboard.

Changelog: Bricks 1.12.2 Changelog – Bricks

Please let us know if you are still experiencing issues.

Best regards,

Thank you @timmse - it’s vastly improved.

Still not perfect as you can see with the grid layout in my page-content below:

For reference the page itself is here so you can see that container does not extend to where the builder shows it.

This is using Bricks builder on a page that calls a Bricks template, running 1.12.2. I am using a child theme but have obviously removed the filter from @charaf above.

If you would like a poke around the instance, I can set that up. But it is a production site now.

Yes please, that would be great as I couldn’t replicate it.

Thank you for sharing access! I have added this case to our bug tracker :white_check_mark:
