When using variants in components and placing a nested component in the parent component, the variant drop down is shown twice. Changing the variants here (in both dropdowns) does not affect the instances of the nested component (which is fine I guess since the properties are treated like content, not styling).
It also makes no difference if the nested component has variants or not. In both cases, the parent variant dropdowns are shown twice.
