WIP: Background Youtube Video "This video is unavailable"

Bricks Version: 1.5.7
Browser: Microsoft Edge Version 107.0.1418.62 (Official build) (64-bit)
OS: Windows 11
URL: N/A using LocalWP to develop locally.

When I go to a section and change the background, the instructions say to add a Youtube, Vimeo or File URL. I add a Youtube URL and the whole section background says ā€œThis video is unavailableā€.

I’m not sure what’s causing this error, but I know Youtube changed the format of it’s URL structure a few months back and I suspect this is the reason why this isn’t working anymore.

URL I tried: Gradient Liquid Blue Shapes Animation Background video | Footage | Screensaver - YouTube

Also tried this URL (same video but short link): Gradient Liquid Blue Shapes Animation Background video | Footage | Screensaver - YouTube

Hi Olija,
Thanks so much for your report!

As far as I know, only one format has been functional so far:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jox6R5-rIH0

Short URLs like https://youtu.be/Jox6R5-rIH0 are not supported.

URLs that contain parameters (&list=…) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jox6R5-rIH0&list=PLdGJJ6BBahVodCt3Cet2bDmDSiRVJoE5G are also not supported.

Can you provide me with an official source?

Best regards,
timmse

Most YouTube videos nowadays are structured with parameters in the URL.

This URL (Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose - #2 | SUPER POWERS, UGLY FLOWERS - YouTube)
Turns into this automatically by Youtube to fetch the correct video (Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose - #2 | SUPER POWERS, UGLY FLOWERS - YouTube)

But if I try to use the first link I just mentioned, it won’t work in Bricks builder. Before YouTube changed it’s URL structure, it would work, now it does not.

It works for me (Resident Evil Village: Shadows of Rose - #2 | SUPER POWERS, UGLY FLOWERS - YouTube). Remove the link and paste it again. Does it work then?

Nope. That didn’t work either. Same link any everything. I am now using Bricks 1.6 and still experience the same issue.

@timmse I also need a section background video on a current cliente site. I entered - for testing reasons - a YouTube URL in these formats (in Style / Background / Background Video):

https://youtu.be/Rk6_hdRtJOE
https://youtu.be/watch?v=Rk6_hdRtJOE

I can confirm, that with Bricks 1.6 none of these two link types is working.

Could you please update this bug anytime soon, cause it’s really urgently needed on this client site.

Thanks!

Did you try this?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk6_hdRtJOE

Yes, I tried it now with ā€œwwwā€ too, but video is still not showing up as a section background video.

Hey,
Short URLs definitely do not work. The ā€œnormalā€ URL https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rk6_hdRtJOE works for me on the first attempt:

Hi Stefan,

this is very very weird. I have been testing this today on a 1:1 staging site AGAIN, now it works, though I swear that I have been trying it the same way previously several times.

But the issue doesn’t seem to be solved though, because I then did EXACTLY the same steps on live dev site … and there it didn’t work … same video url, same hosting, same plugins, same ssl, same procedure, …

Very very weird!

Link to staging site (where it’s working):
https://test.staging-bau.beziehungsweise.cc

Link to dev site (where it’s not working):
https://dev-baumstoff.beziehungsweise.cc

Could you please check again?

Thanks

Hey,
There is a JS error on the dev site that might be helpful for our developers
However, I can’t promise anything, since the error occurs rather ā€œrandomlyā€, as you said yourself.

But with the error, we have a starting point.

Best regards,
timmse

Ok … I hope this will be fixed soon, cause the site with the background video section needs to go live latest mid of January 23.

New piece of information:

On the same client site, I have now used a DEFAULT video (with Bricks video element). This is working.

Putting the same video in the section background does not work. And yes, I have tried all possible URL variations

So I can confirm, that I do have a working video and that the issue is 100 % for sure NOT related to a YouTube restriction. Maybe this helps …

Yea… I just want it to be known that it still does not work for me lol. I’m not sure why it works for some people and not others?

I’m using the same URLs you guys are using. I tried it on Dev & Live site. It just says the video is unavailable and never plays anything. It works on Vimeo but not Youtube for me.

Yes, itā€˜s not really understandable that it works on some sites and not on other. I hope they can find a solution anytime soon!

Hey @OhJey , would you be so kind as to send us temporary access data to one of your sites where it isn’t working? Please send the credentials to help@bricksbuilder.io + a link to this thread and some information, on which page we can find the video :v:

thx by advance

Hi Vincent,

As per my reply in the email, it was due to the youtube link including extra parameters. Remove it and the background video works correctly now.

Jenn

@timmse

Hey, any idea when short URLs for YouTube (example: https://youtu.be/m6eqw4kM8VM) will work for video backgrounds?

Thank you!

Hi Jake,
So far, there is no ā€œofficialā€ request for this on the idea board and, therefore, no task :v:

You are welcome to submit an idea!
