What is an optimal Bricks Tech Stack?

What is an optimal Bricks Tech Stack in 2024?

I have been using standard Bricks builder to make websites. I would like to speed web site making and having everything more consistent with useful features.
Researching online I’ve noticed that there are quite a few people that use and recommend certain plugins, frameworks, design sets and enhancements. One of those websites Bricks Directory extremely useful website, but this still raises the same question.

There are many people who say that X framework is better than Y framework but I’m new to all this and I’m genuinely confused. I would love to know which one is “better” or “optimal” for someone who is picking a framework from scratch.
I’ve been lingering question around this for too long and I think it’s best to get some experienced reviews to make an investment on a good Bricks Tech Stack.

A Tech Stack that is/has:

  • Secure
  • Long Term Support with Updates
  • Priced Well
  • Includes features that are essential to creating good looking websites, fast, and consistent.

There probably isn’t a “rule them all” stack but I and many others are interested in hearing what people use now and their thoughts.
And if you were to restart from scratch what would you use?

I would honestly love to hear a civil discussion/review from your experience or what you have researched.

(P.S.) If you are an Affiliate or Owner of a said plugin, framework, design set or enhancement please note that at the end. Thank you very much.

The real answer is obviously “it depends”. It depends on which part of building websites you’re wishing to improve/speed up. Which part are you slower at, or hate doing, or don’t have the skills to do. It also depends if you’re the person making design decisions, or if you’re the developer building out an existing design (no point buying any design sets if you already have the finished design ready to go).

Here’s the ones I use currently…

  • Core Framework - for managing all the colors, fluid typography / spacing variables for the site.
  • BricksExtras (my own plugin) - For adding all the commonly needed interactive elements that would be a pain to build using only Bricks (if doing proper accessibility), and for all the element conditions.
  • Advanced Themer - I mainly use for managing classes in different ways (changing in bulk, moving ID styles to classes etc), and all the builder shortcuts to save lots of clicks.
  • BricksForge - use for managing GSAP scroll animations

Obv my list is heavily focused on building custom sites. So may not cover your “essential to creating good looking websites” as I see Bricks as a development tool only, not a design tool.

BTW this question is asked a lot in the FB group, if you do a search you’ll find 100s of answers to the same question.

My basic stack in every installation is:

  • Bricks - obviously
  • HappyFiles - Keep order on that media and if needed for cpts, sites, templates, etc.
  • Core Framework - Same as you mentioned
  • ACPT - For creating CPT, Taxonomies & option pages
  • WPCodeBox - To keep all my extra Code organized

And then it depends on each project I use different plugins…

  • Bricksforge - GSAP, Pro Forms, E-Mail Designer
  • BricksExtras - For advanced stuff
  • Brickscore - If I am lazy for doing own GSAP
  • Gutenbricks - If the client needs a lot of flexibility

Hey David,

Do you still use Core Framework?
Still satisfied?
Any gaps about Core Framework?

Reason behind my question:
I am thinking currently about switching from ACSS to Core Framework.
I don’t trust Kevin G. any longer.

thanx in advance
Joachim

Hey @joachim.auster,

I don’t want to start a discussion (there are enough of them all around the community ) but just out of curiosity… why exactly?

Best,

André

For me just Bricks+PODS that’s it oh and motion.page if I want scroll trigger stuff

little bit css and js sometimes needed but I like coding not a problem and we have AI now anyway

less is more

when you have too many plugins and big stack you cannot trust to leave everything auto updating but with little stack like mine you can just leave everything auto updating and drink your tea in peace.
