I’ve noticed recently that adding text to the Rich Text element in the sidebar doesn’t always update in the editor. Notice in the screenshot below the top of the text “Welcome to”[…] which isn’t in the editor view, only on the element content tab on the left-hand side.
If I tap on the element, nothing changes, but if I tap out of the element (for example a button or other text element), then the editor shows the changes from the sidebar in the editor view. It’s as if it only updates after clicking off the element to another element.
What’s annoying is that this is inconsistent, it doesn’t happen every time. It seems like it happens perhaps more often when pasting a lot of text as opposed to typing it out, but it’s not clear if that’s really the trigger or not. This might be difficult to reproduce, it’s definitely happened to be more than once though so wanted to post it here just in case others can reproduce or have encountered this before too.
Unfortunately, I cannot reproduce the issue. However, I will pay explicit attention to it. Please report when you have found a way to reproduce the problem consistently.
I know this isn’t exactly related… but I am finding constant issues with this and similar things.
The difficulty is recording it, since it’s not predictable… but it is frequent and I’m a little surprised you can’t reproduce at least some problem.
I have regular issues changing padding, flex layout etc. in Settings and nothing changes in builder. I have to save and refresh to see if anything has happened.
I can change text content for headings or basic text, and nothing updates in builder, either until a refresh or until something else changes.
For a while I had a weird issue where when I updated an element, it pulsed at me (fade out, fade in) until I changed something else or refreshed the page. This seems to have stopped now.
As for the sliders, it’s like herding cats to get a half-accurate preview of a slider that isn’t full-width and 50vh…
Out of interest @d19dotca - do you have other plugins that ‘hook into’ the builder? I use Bricksextras and AdvancedThemer… But in my new build I’ve switched to OxyProps - and although it’s hard to be certain, it feels less prone to glitches.
I have BricksExtras enabled on the site, yes. I’m using only two of their elements, their one for WS Form (makes styling them way easier than the official WS Form one) and one for Dynamic Table. But the issue is with the Rich Text element in my experience, so I’m not so sure BricksExtras has to do with it, but good to note in case it’s related at all.
Just to add to this, I don’t currently use any other bricks add-ons, just “pure” bricks. I as well run into similar issues quite frequently where stuff just won’t update and I keep scratching my head why it isn’t changing. Happens randomly but mostly with sliders and flex settings for me. Just gotten used to having the front end open in another tab and going there to check if all is correct.
In my case, I kinda suspect the mobile first approach paired with a bunch of custom breakpoints is what might be tripping up bricks. That’s the only not so standard thing I got going rn.
As a side note, hot reloading would be awesome where a tab with the page currently open in the builder auto reloads whenever we save hehe but better to focus on other stuff for now.
@d19dotca@manc
I also have BrExtra tables, so got a bit twitchy there… but thanks Manc, it sounds like it’s not the plugins. That’s some relief.
Yes, a lot of refreshing, but this does feel rather against the point of a live builder
There’s too much good stuff so I will persevere… This will be a tough one to track down.
Hi guys,
I still can’t reproduce the problem and need your input. We definitely need reproducible steps and settings (the less, the better) to find the culprit.
Um, that’s actually already the case when you open the page via the preview in the front end: it reloads on save (unless you reload the builder)
The problem though is it isn’t consistent so it can’t always be reproduced with a set of specific steps. From what I’ve seen and is also mentioned above, it seems the common scenario (but not the only one) is pasting content from another source into the text elements and then afterwards modifying the text content which doesn’t show the modifications in the builder view. Even reloading in the builder doesn’t work (though I’ve never seen that reload button actually do anything yet), it seems to require refreshing the browser tab.
When the issue occurs for us, aside from steps, what data can possibly help narrow it down further for support?
This just happened to me. Wrote a load of code into the Text area of the Rich Text Bricks Element. It was not updating in the Visual Builder area - I clicked away and back and my edits had been lost.
