When overriding a pseudo-selector within the post content on a single post template the backslash () is being escaped:

Randomly. I would say after saving then re-opening. The custom CSS was from the page Advanced settings. So that may also be a variable.
Or after previewing my page (I do that quite often). I’ll try to pinpoint it for you.
