Probably a really dumb question. I have an Elementor site which I’d like to eventually migrate to Bricks. Would I have a problem installing Bricks while duplicating the site rather than building off site and then transferring in? Thanks.
Hi @TonyPas, There is never a dumb question asked, only those that are never asked!
In all honesty, what I have found in the past is that lots of plugins, themes, etc., leave a load of rubbish in the database, and your site will never be as clean as it is with a fresh install.
If it is possible with your hosting, create a new domain (subdomain) and if you have two monitors, have one on showing bricks and one showing your Elementor site.
If you do not have 2 screens or are working off a laptop, then have 1 tab with your new Bricks install and another tab with the Elementor site.
If your hosting does not allow for you to have a subdomain or another domain, then use Local by flywheel, which is super easy to use and set up (It’s a dev environment for you to host the site yourself - no domain or hosting necessary)
Some people would argue to create a staging site, but I would recommend against doing this when changing builder, as again, it basically replicates your DB, so you still have all the junk inside it.
It does take longer but will be so much worth it for 1. No possible conflicts & 2. Great way to get used to Bricks builder.
Good luck, mate!
Thanks. Much appreciated!
I agree with Michael, in general a new, clean installation is always better from my point of view - especially when you´re using elementor before. It is possible that some Elementor Styles overwrite Bricks Styles, so that you lose track at some point… so a fresh start with only Bricks installed is the go to choice, for the reasons Michael mentioned.
I am building my sites always locally with Local by Flywheel and deploy them to the real server when they´re finished. This way, i´ll always have a local copy of the site, where i can build new stuff, test plugins and so on instead doing this on the live site.
Many thanks for the reply.
