A suggestion for swatches flexibility when they’ll be released in probably the next bricks version (current bricks version 1.12).
For each product attribute terms, please allow to enter:
Name: it will be the name of the term only visible at the backend
Display As: it will be the string of how you want to display it at the front end for cases where the term is displayed as a button. Does not apply to image or color swatches.
Tooltip: it will be the string of the tooltip - you can utilize the balloon tooltips that is already integrated with bricks. Can apply to all kind of swatches - button, color, image swatches. (optional to fill)
Description: some description for the selected term that can display below the swatches (optional to fill)
Use case - Selling T-shirt sizes with each size displayed as button. You can fill in the details of the Medium size T-shirt like this:
Name: Medium size
Display As: M
Tooltip: Medium
Description: Chest-size and length that applies to this size.
[EDIT: I submitted this text on the Idea board under the Woocommerce Product Variation Swatches in progress feature]
Product variation swatches are a very useful feature that was a big surprise when it was added to the roadmap, as it wasn’t even on the roadmap for Bricks 2.0.
Thomas and the team always implement features in the best possible way. But I’m glad we can talk about it here and help make it perfect.
I think what’s really important about Product variation swatches is that WooCommerce is planning to break up add to cart into smaller blocks soon, which is great. Details here
So it would be great if the variation swatches came with a few new, small elements.
Add to Cart button
variation selector (variation swatches)
Quantity Selector
stock status/count
Reset button (for variation)
Price (we have it now)
There is an important point here. After selecting the variable, the product price in the price element is updated via Ajax. Also the quantity in stock. While currently, WooCommerce displays another price which is not at all pleasant and only confuses the user. Of course, they have said that they will fix this too. Just like the bricks ultimate plugin, which has the update price feature for Ajax updating product prices.
I hope the ability to specify swatches and select colors directly in the WooCommerce attributes section will be added. Here we can easily create a color and select its color. This has a very important advantage…
In the future, we will definitely have a new filter to filter products based on color. So both color swatches and color filter will get the color of the products from the same point.
As a last point, displaying swatches in the query loop is great. They are not actually selectable, but only visually visible.
