I am not a web developer. I’m just some guy looking to replace Wix, Weebly, and SquareSpace with a VPS under my own control. Despite my inexperience with web developing, I was able to use Elementor Pro to get a pretty decent-looking site ready pretty quickly. The only issue I had was that the website was slow. I tried out Bricks Builder and bought a lifetime license because I wanted to help out a project that I saw a lot of potential in. However, I’ve spend days reading the getting started items and YouTube videos, and I can’t get any sort of a decent page going.
Are there any resources that I’m missing, or is Bricks simply not meant for someone like me? Feel free to be honest/mean. I just don’t want to spend another few weeks and get nowhere because this product is aimed at web developers and not a guy who wants to make a website for his business.
EDIT: Elementor Pro makes clear that there’s an overall plan that theme building is the way to start. All of the basic template parts (header, footer, single page, single post, archive, etc.) were ready to go. I can’t find that here in Bricks Builder except for the header and footer. I don’t know the intersection between the WordPress description of the template with the BB Description. Also, when I create a template I seem to have to link it with a page I set as a front page or posts page, depending on the needs. Basically, I have no idea how to set up all of the template parts that Elementor Pro makes available right away.
Anyway, I just haven’t felt this lost in a long time. I don’t mind reading but I can’t find a resource that has an overarching description of the design philosophy behind Bricks. Like I see that there are descriptions about sections, containers, and divs, and I have learned a lot about CSS in the last few days. However, it wasn’t even clear to me that Bricks was meant to be built around templates like Elementor Pro does.
Can anyone recommend getting started resources? I checked out the official YouTube and Digital Ambition on YouTube. I learned a lot about CSS and coding, but I really want something closer to Elementor and the like.
I haven’t used Elementor, but Templating like this is also a main part of Bricks. The difference is (based on what you’ve said here) is that with Bricks you create the ones you need yourself, it sounds like Elementor adds them all in by default. But templating all works the same as this is a WordPresss thing, not an Elementor or any other builder thing.
You create templates in Bricks by going to Dashboard > Bricks > Templates > Add new
For eg, a basic site you’d create your header and footer templates. Then edit them to add in logo, menu etc. These will be appear on every page on your site, by default. The way you change where templates appear is inside the ‘conditions’ settings in the top left of the builder ( the cog symbol - (settings > templates settings > conditions)
Next, for eg, you may decide to create your home page template. (Templates > Add new). Call it ‘home’ or whatever then edit in Bricks. Go to the conditions settings (settings > templates settings > conditions > add condition > front page.) Now the template will control what appears on the front page.
Repeat the process for any templates you need. single page, single post, archive, etc. it’s always just creating the template, edit in bricks, set the condition to where you want the template to be applied. for single post template you’d choose ‘post type’ and then for eg ‘post’. Then the single post template will only be applied for single posts.
