SOLVED: YouTube Poster image not loading via ACF Field

Browser: Chrome 110

[Please describe this bug in as much detail as possible so we can replicate & debug this bug]

Hi there,

When I choose to show a Poster for a YouTube embed, the page refuses to pull the poster and pulls the YouTube thumbnail instead. The data is pulled via a Custom Post Type in ACF.

I’ve uploaded the screenshots that show the video set-up and the output on the front-end.

We have image alt tags on the poster that we want to display, and we also want the quality of the thumbnail to be better, hence the requirement of pulling the Poster!

Thanks,
Dan

Hi Dan,
Thanks so much for your report!

I reproduced the issue and added it to the bug tracker.

Hi @danproc ,

We are reviewing this bug report.

The Poster image field is meant for <video> tag only. (local video) Once you set an image on this field, Bricks will add poster attribute to the video.

If you are using YouTube videos, you should use the Preview Image controls for that. (Save your Youtube video ID in ACF field and use in the ID field for dynamic purposes.

Not sure if this can fulfill your requirement?

Jenn

Hi Jenn,

This is the first technique that I tried, but I encountered the same issue. Also if I recall correctly, there was an issue with having to click multiple times to get the video to load.

I will re-test and find out though, thanks for your response!

Dan

Hi @danproc ,

You can try that.
Meanwhile, we will improve so the image will be auto-use as Youtube preview Image too if you set the source as Dynamic Data.

Jenn
