The Structure panel, while much better placed on the right, behaves very oddly.
If I add 2 containers to a page and then add a header and image to the top one. I can indent the elements in the structure panel.
But if I try and move those elements to the 2nd container I am unable to indent them they insist on being at the container level.
Moving them back under the first container lets me indent them again.
Update: After more playing I have managed to get the elements to indent when requested. But the margins for the placement of the drag/move icon are really small. So it takes a steady hand on the mouse and numerous attempts before you can get the element outline in the right place to drop it.
Result is that it is not an easy action and makes using the structure panel less than ideal.
Note this is using Edge browser. I have found that using my preferred Firefox seems to cause the Structure panel all sorts of problems.
I can confirm troubles with the Structure panel, especially in Firefox. Just to name one example: I was unable to move the element into another container.
Hello @alanj
I know what you mean with “a steady hand on the mouse and numerous attempts before you can get the element outline”. There’s room for improvement on the structure DnD.
Hi @Blackeye does this happens always? or only under certain circumstances? I tried on my installation and it works fine.
Is it possible for you to submit a screencast using the Feedback tool on the try.bricksbuilder.io?
Thank you!
Hi @luistinygod I’ve sent you 2 screencasts, one with the “dragging from the left panel” issue, other concerning the structure panel.
Concerning the second one, It turned out, that the issue was rather UI issue - it was possible to move an element into the container, but it was rather tricky and not easy to achieve. Strangely enough, the week ago, I wasn’t able to do it no matter, how hard I tried. But maybe I didn’t just hit the right spot.
BTW, I really like the new feedback tool, it really helps to do the screencasts and similar stuff. Your attitude to receive as much feedback as possible is outstanding. Good job!
Luis, Do you still need more detail on the other Structure issues?
Difficulty indenting and moving elements, Elements in Structure view not matching the actual editor locations.
Hello @flimflam, thank you for your message and welcome to the forum!
I confirm this behaviour in certain operating systems + browsers. Did you also try moving the element on the Canvas?
Hi, sorry I’ve been away for a few days.
So still happening on RC2.
Create a new page.
Drop a Container on it
Drop a Heading on it
Drop a Text on it.
All appear at the same level in the Structure panel, but I want the Heading and Text to be inside the Container.
So I click on Heading and get the Move icon, then try and drag the Header element to the right under the Container ( Indenting it ). But it refuses to do that.
Add a second set of Container, Heading, Text.
Again I can’t move the Header inside the Container.
But if I move the Header above the Container, then try again to move it inside ( ie under and indented ) the Container then it works.
In general I just can’t seem to move elements around in the Structure panel reliably. Sometimes they refuse to go where I want, other times they move but then i can’t move them back.
I really have no idea if I am doing something wrong but I am doing what seems most natural to me.
My other issue was where I’d added other elements to the page but they didn’t show up where i expected in the Structure panel, nor on the page sometimes. In particular the Divider widget.
In fact I just added one to the bottom of the above page then went to move it between the 2nd Containers Header and Text … and the whole 2nd container, Header, Text and Divider have now vanished from the Structure panel, and the page!
This is different to my earlier issue where the Divider appeared on my page not where I tried to place it ( tried moving it directly on the page and also in the Structure panel.) I ended up with a divider in one place on the page and its element in the Structure panel in a completely different place.
This is all on Edge now as I had loads of problems earleir using Firefox. ( Which is another issue as Firefox is my preferred option )
We’ve made several improvements on the drag-n-drop on the coming 1.2 release. I am not able to replicate the issues you described anymore. Let’s see how it behaves on your end as soon as it gets public.
Hi Luis,
Thanks. I have now downloaded the latest 1.2 but I am still seeing the same difficulty in using the Structure panel. It takes many attempts to try and move an element into a container. It feels as though the Structure panel is fighting against me rather than being a help.
Maybe its because I am trying to use the Structure panel as the primary way to organise my page, I would prefer to use it rather than trying to move elements directly on the page. However I see that directly moving elements on the page seems to be much more reliable.
New structure panel in 1.2.1 is now working as I imagined/hoped it should.
Can easily move the various elements around and inside or to outside of others.
No glitches after multiple moves.
