SOLVED IN 1.4: WooCommerce Breadcrumbs when an Attribute is selected issue

Bricks Version: 1.3.7
Browser: Chrome 90
OS: macOS / Windows / Linux / etc.

When selecting an Attribute filter on a Products Archive page; - the breadcrumbs are reset to ‘Shop / Home’. I understand that various products could have for instance the same ‘colour’ attribute. …but
should Breadcrumbs then not display specifics to the attribute selected?; - instead they display the name set as if it where on the Shop page. Not 100% sure this is a bug but could the breadcrumbs not perhaps display the attribute instead or a statement of ‘Various’ instead of making the user know where they are on the page.

The issue is more UX than anything else. I find it counter-interactive. Is there a solution?

Edit: Tested again this morning and yes, I think the attribute filter should be noticed in the breadcrumbs as it does when using the search filter.

Hi Dale,

the breadcrumbs element shows on which page you currently are. So if you’re on the shop page and use the filter, you’re still on the shop page. You won’t get redirected to something like a search results page or something. That’s why the breadcrumb stays as it is.

Hi Stefan,

Apologies for not mentioning the page. I don’t use attributes filters like ‘colour’ and ‘size’ on my Shop page but rather only on the Product Category page. So when on the product category page(individual template) and I select a ‘Filter by Colour’ option; - the breadcrumbs get reset to display as if you were on the Shop/Home page.

I can send a link but there is no option here to set my response as private.

Kind regards,
Dale

Hey,

aaaah now I got it. The attributes and filter thing confused me a bit. You’re right, when I’m inside of a product, the breadcrumb shows:

Home / Clothing / Tshirts / Long Sleeve Tee

But when I’m inside of /product-category/clothing/tshirts/ it shows

Home / Shop

We’re going to improve this in one of the following versions :v:

#Awesome thank you and dev team :vulcan_salute:

You’re welcome. But just to reiterate, the filters have nothing to do with the breadcrumb, and it shouldn’t change when you filter, since you’re still on the same page.

But in general, the path within a category should of course show the category and not just Home / Shop. I just added that to our todos.

Hi Stefan,

The Filter for ‘Other’ > ‘Product Search’ does change the breadcrumbs as per my site
URL/shop/female-clothing/womens-tshirts/ladies-long-sleeve-t-shirts/)/Search results for “test”

…so there is some kind of correlation with breadcrumbs and filters.

I would like to see this functionality for attributes as well.

Kind regards,
Dale

Just to continue on this topic; - reading about attributes in WooCommerce I came across this article by WooCommerce that Product Filtering Attributes will be added to WooCommerce 6.3 > New product filtering by attributes rolling out in WooCommerce 6.3 – Woo Developer Blog

Perhaps this will then be included in the WooCommerce breadcrumbs. What do you think?

Kind regards,
Dale
