SOLVED: Font manager: A font weight and style already exists

Fonts manager won’t allow me to select the weight and the styles of a newly uploaded font if either already exists.

For example - I’ve already uploaded regular, regular italic and then want to add bold and bold italic. I can add the bold without issues, because I’d change the font weight. But when I tried to set the bold italic, then the issue hit me. See:

Regular - 400, normal
Regular Italic - 400, italic
Bold - 700, normal
Bold Italic - 700, italic.

When the font is uploaded it is set to 400, normal. But at this point both 700, normal and 400,italic exists, so the font manager wouldn’t let me set 700, italic and resets my choice automatically.

Of course, the workaround is to select something that’s not existing yet. But if you have a font with variations from 100 to 900 with normal, italic with oblique styles, you will definitely hit the wall at some point.

This may not be a bug, but something actually overlooked.

I think the uploaded fonts shouldn’t have any options set by default and the validation check should be executed once both fields are set. This way, nobody will hit the wall

Cheers!

Bricks version: 2.1.2
Steps to reproduce:
Open the fonts manager and upload the following fonts:

  1. Regular - 400, normal
  2. Italic - 400, italic
  3. Bold - 700, normal
  4. Bold Italic - 700, italic (here you hit the wall. You could also add Light or medium, doesn’t matter)

Hi @petlov,

I’m not sure how to replicate it. Can you please send me the font files, so I test with them directly?

Thank you,
Matej

Hi Matej, the font doesn’t matter. Download any font from Google fonts and set the weight and font style as follows:

  1. First upload, set to weight 400, style normal
  2. Second upload, set to weight 400, style italic
  3. Third upload, set to weight 700, style normal
  4. Fourth upload, try setting it to weight 700, style italic. You can’t, this is the issue.

You could upload the very same font 4 times, doesn’t matter. The weight and style matter.

Ahhhh, thank you @petlov,

I tested it before but I selected the wrong font weight, and did not noticed that. Now I can replicate it and I’ve added it to our internal bug tracker.

Thank you,
Matej
