SOLVED: Fluid typography generator allows you to create duplicate variables

Browser: Any
OS: macOS

1 - Ensure you have no fluid typography generated variables
2 - In the Variable manager, create a number of variables that have the same names as those created by the default fluid typography generator settings, e.g. --text-m; --text-s etc.
3 - In the fluid typography generator, select the category and then click Generate Variables

The scaling variables are created and these have the same names as those you manually created in step 1.

This shouldn’t be allowed and a check preformed against those defined in the variable manager and a suitable message displayed.

Hi @simon,

yes, you are right. I’ve recorded a task in our internal task tracker, so that we improve/fix this in the future.

Thank you,

Hi @Matej,

A related question for you.

I want to replace all my manually entered scaling variables with a set generated by the fluid typography generator. To do this, I can temporarily create a duplicate set of variables and then delete all the original variables. This would mean that the variable names don’t change and so hopefully wherever I have used the original variables in custom CSS or in an element’s Style > Typography > Font size field Bricks would simply use the new variable values.

Am I correct in thinking this?

Thanks

Hi @simon,

yes, if you remove the variables from variable manager and then add them again, they should be updated - they will not get removed from the elements.

Meaning, if you generate a new variable with the same name, it will stay.

The new “style manager” should give you all the flexibility needed, now available in Bricks 2.2 beta, which can be downloaded from your account.
