SOLVED: Copy across domains still not working

Bricks Version: 1.5.1
Browser: Firefox & Chrome 90
OS: macOS 12.5.1
URL: Localhost MAMP

Cross domain copy still not working for me. I tested with Firefox (and noted the issues page with Firefox) and I tested with Chrome.

Either I don’t understand how this is supposed to work or there is still an issue. This is an important feature to me.

Hi, kindly note that the copy & paste only works in SSL enabled site. Ensure your localhost with SSL.

Thank you for the reply.

I added a cert to my localhost and indeed it is active.

When I paste the copy, nothing happens - even on the same site.

not working in Firefox & Chrome too?
In Chrome, you should try reset the permission, because it should prompt you for premission when doing paste.

In Firefox, once you configured correctly, you should see the same as per my recorded GIF in [SOLVED] Paste Element or Style no more working on FireFox (1.5.1-rc or 1.5.1)

Lastly, you could open dev tools console tab, then type navigator.clipboard , check if it’s return undefine

Seems this may be duplicate of WIP: Copy/paste seems to don't work in Firefox

For me, it doesn’t work in any browser.

I may not know how to use it and where but how can I miss right clicking, clicking “Copy” then go to another edit session and clicking “Paste”?

Ok, I stand corrected - somewhat

None of the recommendations for Firefox or Chrome worked for me.

I did a test with Safari, after ignoring the SSL Cert for MAMP I was advised to set up, and I can copy a block from either a template or the element on a page.

So, we can’t use Firefox or Chrome now? grin

I just now tested v1.5.2 with Safari (No notes on it not working) and I can’t cut-n-paste from one domain to the other.

I just tested with Chrome, fails.

In both cases I have followed the instructions to allow and in both cases I am on a MAMP localhost.

These are all cross domain attempts.

Have you setup SSL on localhost? Else it won’t work.

Hi John,
Thanks so much for your report!

I’ve tested again and cannot reproduce the issue in chrome or safari (on macOS).
Both sites (one live, the other locally using localwp) are using HTTPS.

Best regards,
timmse

SOME progress

Ok, should I still only be able to make this work with Safari?

What other browsers SHOULD cross domain Copy /Paste work with and besides SSL, what specific steps do I need to perform to make it work?

I can work in Safari but I prefer Firefox Developer if at all possible - is it?

Thank you

In chrome and safari it works in my case without me having to set anything.
With Firefox, the settings mentioned in our known issues article work:

Ok, working in Firefox Dev now. I had set these before and when I checked again, they were still set to true, yet before it did not work, this time what!!?? it did work.

No success in Chrome yet because with the generated MAP SSL Cert, Chrome won’t let me open the page :stuck_out_tongue: (Not your fault). If you have any ideas on that, I am open to listening because I like to test sites with all browsers. If the question is just totally out of scope I understand.

I’m glad it works now, John!

Yes, we really can’t do anything about the MAMP vs. Chrome SSL problem… but as I said, it works fine with localwp (and its certificate). I mark the post as solved. Get back to me if there is anything else.

I will say that I was able to finally use all the browsers after I overcame using the locally generated certificates in the way necessary for use with MAMP localhost - finally.

Now comparing how that is accomplished with MAMP compared to Flywheel Local, Local is a MAJOR pain to accomplish this compared to MAMP.

I guess if you get it “free” then you have to be willing to go through this kind of thing. I believe the “free” version of MAMP may have the same capability but you get ONE site at a time. For a site developer this does not really make sense :stuck_out_tongue:

If you count your time and the flexibility of MAMP in a ton of area compared to Local, MAMP in my opinion is worth the money for the Pro version.

Anyone else trying to tackle this issue be advised.

If you are satisfied with MAMP, everything is fine

Thanks yes. Things are working.

I have been using MAMP since I think version 2?

I did a zoom meetup with the Local developers and gave my input. I don’t think my concerns made much of an impact.

In my opinion, as I said before, MAMP is the better product. If you are developing as any level of business or you want to be able to learn and experience development beyond the “basics” and more than just wordpress and PHP, then MAMP is superior and worth the investment.

Thank you for all your help and patience as I got my head around what is necessary to make the Copy/Paste work across domains. Bricks is definitely doing it’s “part” but we need to manage the proclivities :stuck_out_tongue: of the various browsers, how they handle self signed certificates and allow access to the site when using in a self signed localhost development environment. I feel like I have gained a lot of expertise having worked through this issue.

Thanks.

Same here. It doesn’t ruin my life but if it was working would save some time. I have the SSL, copy/paste on the same domain yet doesn’t work. I have the latest version 1.5.2

Does “anything happen” when you cut or paste?

Which browser(s) are you trying with?

Is this local or hosted?

If local, what are you using as a local host server?

More details, I might be of some help.

Nothing happens.
