I select the root block element and then under the style tab, try to modify the background color. The color picker is missing.
I wouldn’t say it’s a bug. From your screenshot it looks like a background color of transparent was set at some point in the past. You can see there’s a yellow indicator. I bet if you reset the background by clicking the x, you’ll see the color picker icon show up.
I’m just saying that it’s highly likely that at some point you intentionally/unintentionally set the background color to transparent for this block.
I just tested this. When I add a new block to the page, I do not have a transparent background by default. This is unlikely a bug, unless it’s a very strange outlier case, but you’re free to leave it open if you wish and the team can look into it further.
Edit: Ok, I see in the image where it is indeed set to transparent. I never set this though as I have/had no need for one on this element.
For this UI issue, items that have setting maybe should have an indicator or something visible around the color circle if it’s set. I donno, but it made no sense to me that the background would have a yellow indicator but not see anything in the color set icon.
I guess I will be alerted to this in the future, but it really troubles me that I never set it to 100% trans.
Hi John,
I’m a little hung up: what do I need to do to reproduce the problem? If the transparency is 0, it shows as transparent (as in your screenshot).
I don’t think it’s a bug at this point but a UI issue. I think if I wasn’t in Dark Mode this would not be a problem. I tested in Light mode and this would be a non issue in that case.
The challenge is that different screens have different brightness. Even when you take a screen shot, the contrast ratios shift some.
Now that I know that if the icon “disappears”, SOME kind color/shade/transparency has to have been selected.
Because of being in dark mode, all I saw on the screen was black and not a transparent circle element.
It’s not a bug, but a difficulty with the UI in some use cases unless one really understands the possible states and is paying closer attention.
It’s user error I guess in my case. shrug Thank you for your willingness to look at it.
Thanks for the explanation
Admittedly, the darker the screen is set, the more difficult it is to see the field (depending on the color and transparency). Let’s see if we can lighten that up in the future so it still fits into the overall “dark” mode.
