SOLVED: Alt text as caption when no caption set?

Browser: Arc
OS: Windows 11
URL: Link

I enabled captions in my gallery and it works great. However, when the image has no caption, it defaults back to the alt text and shows that instead. Is that by design? That doesn’t happen on normal images. Is there an option to only show the caption if the image has one and not default back to the alt text?

Hi Bart,
Thanks so much for your report!

The “alt fallback” is basically a feature due to this idea board entry/comment, but unfortunately, there’s currently no way to disable it

We discussed this internally and think, that this shouldn’t be the default behavior and that we need a setting to implicitely enable it. I’ve created an improvement task on this.

Regarding the different behavior: That’s indeed a bug, because it should behave the same everywhere. I’ve added it to the bug tracker.

Best regards,
timmse
