it seems in the text element the “limit words” and “read more” option limits the words but the “read more” does nothing.
Can someone check that for me please?

The word limit is designed to, for example, shorten a post’s excerpt to a certain length. You can then add a “Read More” link or text to complement this.
I think what you’re looking for is this, which can be achieved with custom tags:
