Query loops, templates and styles

Further to ysintos’ question about saving Query loops as templates for use on different pages (Save query loop container as template?)…

Is it possible to do the same thing (ie have a global query loop element, where I can change styling etc in one place) - but also be able to change the specific query itself for each page? (ie where all the pages have the query filtered by a different term or category?)

It seems you can only have one or the other - ie

  1. use an element template and all pages change identically when you change the master template in any way, or…
  2. insert the template into the page as the query loop container, in order to be able to change the query filter - but any changes to the styles of the master have to be copied across individually to each page.

I think this may be a feature request…

I suspect you could use the bricks/posts/query_vars filter to modify the query per page for the time being.

My php understanding is very rudimentary (I’ve only ever added php filters via the Code Snippets plugin. Would I add the filter to the Body Script under the Page Setting’s custom code?

You should add the filter to your child theme’s functions.php or use the Code Snippets plugin. You will need to customize the filter as needed by identifying the current page and then updating the query arguments accordingly.
