if you want/need to update the transparency or color of the variable, you will have to update it in the variable manager.

Whatever you update inside the color picker, will not affect the variable itself, but the change will be local. I think this makes sense, as you may accidentally change something, and it would change everywhere you use that variable.

I was thinking if that ux was intended for a sec.

setting color shades/transprency can be done on var() creation ui.
