NO BUG: Tapping 'enter' after editing the name of a colour in the palette doesn't save the change, also keyboard navigation doesn't match with structure panel

Browser: Chrome 115
OS: Windows

Video: Short screen recording that illustrates this issue (free tool: jam.dev)

As in the title, when viewing a column of colours for my custom pallette and I edit the name, tapping enter doesn’t save the value, this has lead me to failing to properly save values on many occasions.

Similarly the text editing experience for colour values and node names in the structure panel is inconsistent.

In the structure panel I can’t use the keyboard properly to highlight and edit text after double clicking the name of the node. Holding shift and left or right arrow to select a whole word or many at a time doesn’t work, which is quite frustrating, this works fine however when editing colour names.

Hey @BrickieBoy,

thanks for your report.

Would you be so kind to record a small screencast demonstrating the issue so that I can then try to reproduce it? That’d help a lot.

Are you using any kind of plugins which add functionality to the builder, create color palettes etc.?

Best,

André

Hi Andre,

I’ve just disabled all plugins and tested, and still the return key doesn’t save colour name edits.

A video won’t who anything happening, but this is what I’m looking at:

I have to switch back to the mouse and click the little check mark to save my edits.

I’ll get a video of the other issue in a moment.

Hey BrickieBoy,

ok. I see what you mean. And I agree that the UX isn’t yet ideal here. However, this is more of a feature / improvement request than an actual bug. A feature request has already been created for this.

Feel free to submit an idea for this.

Best,

André

Here’s a video showing both isssues

The feature request you linked is for double tapping to edit, which is different.

I just want the behaviour to be what I think most people would presume to be default and expected, and inline with other experience in the bricks interface, such as class creation and editing.

The return key works fine to save when class editing/renaming, so I believe this is a bug with the colour palette.

Hey @BrickieBoy,

let me quote from the feature request:

A more intuitive way would be to double-click the current name, rename and confirm with ENTER or clicking outside of color.

I think this is exactly what you are requesting.

Best,

André
