NO BUG: Rich text containing emojis is not saved

I would like to add emojis to emphasize important links, like :point_right: click here :point_left:.

If you create such a text fragment inside a rich text block and then click the save button, you’ll receive the save success notification, but the changes are neither saved nor visible on the front end.

If you reload the builder, it starts from a previous version.

The problem occurs with emojis taken from the Windows emoji menu using WINDOWS+. Hotkey and emojis taken from https://emojipedia.org.

Check the screen recording video:

System Version
Windows 10
Browser: Firefox 98.0.2
MySQL 5.7.37-cll-lve
PHP 7.4.28
WP 5.9.3

Hi Martin,
I don’t know in which format the Windows Emoji Menu inserts the emojis, but did you ever try to insert the emojis not in “visual” but in “text”?

Presumably, HTML is automatically removed from “visual”. As soon as I insert e.g. 😉 in “text”, the emojis are displayed correctly.

Best regards,
timmse

Hi @timmse,

thank you for your answer, it brought me forward, but the issue still exists.
If I insert 👉🏻 https://emojiguide.org/ 👈🏻 it’s sometimes correctly displayed like :point_right:t2: https://emojiguide.org/ :point_left:t2:.

However, I still have the problem that the builder does not correctly save if I use emojis.
I would recommend an Emoji-Picker in the rich text editor.

Hey,
check out this plugin: Super Emoji Plus+ – WordPress plugin | WordPress.org

I am having same issue on my MacBook, where changes are not saved if an emoji is added in the basic text element. I tried adding the emoji using 😉 as you suggested and it work for me. I spent the last 1 hour firguring out why my changes where not being saved :sob:

I can confirm, same here with V 1.9.9 - Windows Emoji preventing save but the save dialog is still visible.

Some example emojis: :blush::+1:

Hey @neofix , can you please show the issue in a short screencast? One of our developers who also uses windows has tried to reproduce the problem, but can’t do it.

Here you go: https://youtu.be/YoyqOExkQwM

Windows 11, Firefox 126.0.1, latest Bricks and WP

You’re using the basic text element but this report is about the rich text element

However, I can’t replicate any issue on my Mac (left builder, right front end):

Yes, you’re right (noticed that too after a while). I was searching for a related, already reported bug and in need of time just posted it here :innocent:

The bug might be related to Windows only (I’m using Windows built in icons using “Windows”+ “.” key simultaneously. No big need for a fix on my end, just want to report it.

Edit: Oh, just noticed that the windows dialog wasn’t recorded in the video… I used this windows dialog (using windows + .):
grafik

I don’t want to stress anyone, but I just noted the issue is still present (accidentally stumbled over it again in the latest release). Is there any work progress or planned?

(Wondering over the wait status of this thread)

Yes, i’m having trouble using emojis in rich text as well, for example, flags like - :es: :it:, do not work.

Anyone found a workaround?

Hi,

did you test with Mac or Windows?

Matej

It’s working now. The issue was with my custom build addon for Bricks, and the data on my end/source was bad. Apologies and thank you
