Using dynamic data won’t link to author pages correctly, however it will work in a text field as shown in the image attached.

The :link filter turns the author name itself into a link, so if you insert {author_name:link} within the URL field of a link, you would get a link within a link, which is not allowed. Accordingly, this is not a bug.
By the way, the standard slug for the author page uses the nickname, which you can use as follows within the link URL: .../author/{author_meta:nickname}
