NO BUG: Default Image caption setting should be "NO CAPTION"

Hi,

Since the 1.8 updates, Image caption default settings have been set to “Attachment”.

We now have to go through EVERY template and deactivate it manually, since captions are sometimes auto-generated by plugins (SEO, Media replacement, etc …), because they now appear over the images with an ugly gradient.

There was no sense in making this a default setting, it messes up pretty every template I have created.

Please act quickly to change this setting back to a default “No Caption”, I thought this would have come in the 1.8.1 quick-fix.

The caption default has always been “Attachment”. I just checked the code base in 1.7.3 down to 1.6 as well.

You can globally set the image caption to “No caption” in your theme style under “Element - Image”:

Thanks Thomas,

I guess it was then a plugin in my stack that updated to a new feature to auto-generate captions and titles to newly added images, because I did not have this issue when developing these projects that have been impacted lately.

It is good to know that we can set it in the theme settings, but do you think you could consider having “No Captions” as a default rather than “Attachment” ? The way captions are shown by default in WP are probably really not what most people want to see/have, so they deactivate them no matter what. The way people reacted on the FB group makes me think we (mostly) all think that way…

Well, people reacting to this default are the ones that prefer a different default. You won’t read a comment saying “Thank you so much for using the attachment as the image caption default as WordPress does, so I don’t have to manually set it”, right

We’ll keep this default as it is. Otherwise, all users that prefer & use the default already, will email us saying their captions broke. It’s one of those decisions that has been made initially. And you can easily change it globally in the theme styles. We can’t just switch forth & back without a good reason. Especially if it’s not even a bug. If that makes sense.

I can understand that point of view
