NO BUG: Copy/paste in custom font variant fields does not work

Browser: Firefox 143.0b2
OS: Windows
URL: local dev site using LocalWP

In the admin, under Bricks > Custom Fonts, if you edit a custom font and copy/paste the file source from one variant to another, it won’t be there after clicking Update and the page reloading.

This is undesirable because when using variable fonts you just want to use the same file for each variant, but without copy/paste working it’s a far more tedious task. In any case, the input field UI indicates that copy/paste should work.

The screenshot below shows the result of copying the TTF file from the first variant to the second and updating the custom font.

Hi @squarestar,

I’ll mark this one as a no-bug, because it worked like this from the beginning. You will have to add the files every time, and usually you would use different files, so this is not the issue most of the time.

However, as you use the variable font, you should only add the file once, and then change to whatever font weight you want in the builder, or you could use 'wght' 300 as a custom variable font size in the Font variation settings control.

Best regards,
Matej

Thanks Matej - that’s good to know that I don’t need to add the variable font multiple times. I was confused at first because the Weight dropdown in Theme Styles only showed the explicit variants - I didn’t cop you could just type the weight you wanted!

I would still say that the UI should be changed so that it doesn’t give the impression that entering the path in the field will work though. Not a bug obviously, but it’s a bit misleading.

There are some UX issues with font manager, including this one, when you use variable fonts and we will improve this
