I created a variable in the Variables manager and used it in several pages. Then for some reason I decided to rename it in the Variables manager. Unfortunately, after renaming, all the parts that I had used this variable were broken.
It seems that after changing the name of a variable, the name of the variable is not updated in the sections we have used it.
I noticed that it’s been declared as the desired behavior that renaming CSS variables in the Variable Manager leaves all instances with the previous name stranded.
As far as I know, an edit function for the Variable Manager was planned when it was still on the roadmap, and I believe it was voted for in the early stages. It was at least mentioned in the original description of the Variable Manager.
I understand if this feature was quietly dropped due to complexity. However, simply stating that this is the “desired” behavior seems like a stretch—perhaps for a first release, but not long-term.
So, my question is: Can we expect an “edit” function at some point, similar to the one in the Class Manager—without having to put it on the wishlist again?
Hi Ralph,
Unfortunately, I can no longer remember the specific wording and would be very grateful if you could share a link to the source
I can’t currently find an entry for the variable manager on the idea board or in the roadmap. Accordingly, this functionality is not currently planned.
Newcomer to this,
knowing that it’s not expected behavior is a good start. But just a +1 for what would be most convenient. I can’t imagine a scenario where someone changes an established variable name and would not want it to update across their site.
