NO BUG: Bricks Custom Font not showing as a custom font in the editor when selecting a font family

I’ve added a custom font in Bricks, but I don’t see it when selecting a font family in the editor.

Screenshot of the custom font added in Bricks:

When I’m selecting a font family, it’s not listed.

Any ideas? :face_with_monocle:

Hey Stacey,

thanks for your report.

As this looks like a very specific issue it’d be best if you could send some temporary credentials to help@bricksbuilder.io from the email address you used to purchase Bricks. Please also include a link to this forum thread for reference.

Best,

André

Hi, there,

I have exactly the same problem. I can’t get the fonts to show up in the media library when I open the media manager from the new (or the old) font manager. (Bricks 2.0 RC)

If I open the media library “from Wordpress”, the fonts show up.

Note: I use variable fonts. When adding a new weight, as I can’t select an existing font, I have to upload a new font file for each weight, which of course makes no sense with variable fonts.

I’m a new Bricks user (ex-Elementor & Astra Pro/Spectra). I had no problems with custom fonts in previous page builders… but apart from this problem, I absolutely love Bricks!

Thank you in advance for any help!

Hi Johannes,
When adding a variable font, leave the font weight at its default setting. You need only one file, and set the font-weight through the font variation settings, not the font-weight dropdown.

Hello, timmse,

and thank you for your answer! I already had seen your similar answer on this post:

So this is the “official” way to add variable fonts, right? I’m asking because I had already tried to read everything available on variable fonts, and it was difficult to get sufficient informations.

The official Bricks tutorial on YouTube ist quite outdated and does not mention variable fonts:

Just for users like me, the actual way of managing variable fonts is unintuitive because:

  • You have to upload your variable font ignoring the “400 (Normal)” label, and there is no mention of variable fonts whatsoever
  • Most tutorials (and the forum link above) mention multiple uploads of the same file at different weights. (Does not work in my case, as mentioned in my first answer above).
  • It would be great to be able to use the Font weight dropdown (which could reflect the available weights of the variable font!) instead of typing in font variations.

Please take this as suggestions, not harsh criticizm! Anyways, it works well the way you described, uploading only one file and entering font variation weights “manually”.

Cheers!
Johannes

Bricks does not handle variable fonts well for the reasons you say.

There are two plugins you can use that solve the issues raised in this thread.

Yabe Web Font is one and Font Hero the other. Both work well.

Using them, custom fonts uploaded to your site are visible in the font selector.

And variable fonts can use the Bricks font weight dropdown for the weights 100 to 900, but you can also use the font variations field to set any other value.
