NO BUG: 1.7 Global Styles button background color not working

I have a global stylesheet in 1.6.2 that had a Primary button style with a hover state set up.

After updating to 1.7 the background color for the button is just white, also on hover.

Everything else is ok, transition, border color, font etc., and they can be changed in the global stylesheet. But trying to apply a background color results in nothing.

Going directly to the styles option for the button, background color can be changed.

I had made a WPvivid backup of the site on 1.6.2 right before updating to 1.7 so I restored it. Everything back to normal. I updated to 1.7 again and the same problem occurs.

Oh, I did regenerate the css too - no change.

Forgot to mention I am working off of the child theme - have never made any changes to the main theme. WP 6.1.1

Not a big deal. I could always just apply styles manually to a button and copy/paste the styles or just duplicate the button, but that’s what the global styles are there for right?

Keep up the good work! Love using Bricks!

Hi William,
Thanks so much for your report, and welcome to the forum!

I have updated various pages and have not found any problems so far. Can you give me the exact steps on how to reproduce the problem?

Best regards,
timmse

Hi timmse,

I apologize - think this is my fault I think. Under 1.6.2 when I added a button it was set to Primary by default. I then checked the Outline option (I wanted a rectangular button with an outline) which then made the default Primary yellow/gold background color disappear - thought this was the right thing to do. I wanted a button with a transparent background for the initial state, background color on hover state.

I then went into my global styles and styled the button - font type, font size, border color, border width, hover background color, etc.) but the initial background color I left empty because it was already transparent (after checking the Outline option on the button itself initially before going into the global styles).

Everything was fine in 1.6.2 - button with a transparent background with my styling that changes background color and font color with an ease transition.

After updating to 1.7 everything was also fine except the background color. Like I mentioned, it was white, both normal and hover state. And going into the global styles, I couldn’t change it (or did but with no apparent effect). Styling the background color directly on the button itself did change the color, but that is to be expected.

I reverted back to 1.6.2 and created a button and just left it Primary by default (no Outline option checked), and then did ALL the styling in the global button styles for Primary, also selecting the initial color for background but making it’s color opacity 0 (not sure if that step was needed).

I updated to 1.7 and everything is fine with the buttons styles.

Sorry for the book - if I had just left the button alone initially and styled everything in the global styles I wouldn’t have had the issue.

Hey William,
no problem  I can definitely understand that the styling of the buttons is a bit too complicated (especially in terms of colors, outline, and co). We’ll definitely try to simplify this a lot in the future and especially, make it less confusing.
