This is the space Im referring to, I recreated using a fresh template.
I’ve fixed this on my end by setting the nav menu element’s overflow to hidden (not shown in this screenshot).
I’ve had this issue before. It seems to only happen with menus that have submenus. Try it with a menu that has parent elements only, unless you are wanting there to be submenus.

Can you provide the steps to reproduce the problem?
I just added a Nav Menu element in my test site’s footer and do not see this gap below the footer. The menu does have nested menu items.
