Making sites like these

Hi all!

I’m excited about the prospect of using Bricks (still doing research, but heavily leaning towards it), and more so about the growth and future of this builder!

Not sure if this is the topic area for this post (how-to seemed a bit too specific), but I’d like to build sites like the ones I’m listing below, and I’m wondering if I’ll be able to do so with Bricks and any available add-ons:

  • Salient Theme - I’m currently using this theme as it has the types of animations, sliders, off screen menus, mega menus, parallax images, carousels, etc that I’d like to use on a page. Worth taking a look at their demo pages to get an idea of the types of features they offer.

Others sites I like (ugh - I can’t link them since I’m new here, so please refer to my response).

Can I accomplish those types of design and functionality goals using Bricks? Are there add-ons I should consider? I know, for example, Oxygen has Oxyextras, which is exactly what I’m looking for, but they haven’t responded to me about wether or not they’ll support bricks in the future. I’ve just been told about motion.page as well, and will be doing my homework on it soon.

TIA for taking the time to respond and give me feedback, suggestions, and any advice!

Hi, I’m one of the developers from OxyExtras, we created BricksExtras and are in the process of moving the functionality across to BricksExtras to allow the same functionaliyy for Bricks. There’s around 20 elements currently, and extra features that can be added to different elements, with more coming.

However, the sites you’re pointing to at the moment. This is more motion.page territory. (or scrollTrigger is the JS library if you wanted to do it manually in Bricks only) We have some parallax effects, and soon be adding the dynamic cursor etc, but for those types of sites, with a lot of custom scrolling effects needed, you’re likely to need a solution with a timeline where you can configure it more closely related to the exact scroll positions of any elements. Which is what motion page does, so I think that’s more likely the plugin you’re looking for.

Just read your email (and responded). Thanks so much for this info. I think you’ve basically tipped me in favor of adopting the Bricks platform. I still have a few other sites to complete before I fully get into making a site with Bricks from scratch, but I think by then hopefully you’ll have replicated all the OxyExtra features over to BricksExtra.

No worries about the scrolling features. I was expecting that I’d need to utilize a multitude of tools and add-ons to accomplish everything that I’d like to. That said, I’ll definitely pick up both BricksExtra and Motion.

Thanks again for this very useful info!
