Link featured image of posts element elsewhere (custom field, external url)

In the posts element it would be nice if it was possible to not only have the option to link the featured image to the post. It would be nice if it could also link elsewhere.

EDIT: I know I can just build my own post template with the repeater and then link the featured image elsewhere, but then it is not that easy to create a masonry layout, which is integrated in the posts element.
