In case of renaming the layer’s name: I click/double-click the layer’s name, then start removing the letters with the Backspace key. Once I reach the first letter and delete it, I get the default name thrown at me immediately.
I get the idea of not allowing the editor/user to have layers without names (IDs) but I guess force the automatic renaming after I leave the layer unnamned (without any character/s) and only after I click anywhere else that the editor brings the default name back… otherwise I have to go through the strange editing experience shown in the GIF below…
