So I am almost done with a project for my client. How can I protect it against copy?
I see on template sites that they work with licenses. How can I implement this on my templates? Like white list the url. The way that Bricks does with the license and white list.
I dont think you can because the design has already been created.
For example, licensing will usually block a function; for Bricks, you cannot use the templates or builder, I think, without the license. Other themes might block access to specific settings. Some require a license but can be used with or without.
So if they distribute your design, there is nothing you can do about it; they won’t be able to use Bricks without buying a license as it will be on a different domain.
But it does not protect you.
That being said, I would be cautious about working with someone/company where I felt they would rip off my work and sell it.
On the flip side, if they have paid you for the design, then do they not have the right to do whatever they wish with it?
I know some designers have contracts and keep the copyright of the design. I do not include this clause for my clients. They paid me to create them a design. It’s up to them what they use it for.
I don’t think there is any such option to protect a template the way you want to that you’ve put on a client’s site from being copied or exported unfortunately.
Not in any builder not just in Bricks. Not even Elementor or other builders have this option from my knowledge. Once a template has been imported on a site, you or your client can do pretty much what you/they want with it.
The only “protection” is a licence but that is not being hardly-enforced per-se.
Template sites have no hard-protection AFAIK either.
Once you purchase the template and download it you can effectively copy and import it everywhere. It’s up to you if you want to respect the licence or not.
I am not a legal adviser but I still do recommand you to respect the creatores licence. I trully believe that what you give is what you get in this life. So respect the licence and buy genuine software/templates/plugins whatever to support their creators to build even more great stuff.
