Google Fonts vs Custom Fonts

Hey all,

What’s better approach to speed and site optimization?

Using Google Fonts directly available from Bricks out of the box?

Or disabling Google Fonts in Bricks settings and uploading the Google Fonts we will use in the project as Custom Fonts?

Thanks,
Matt

In the process of website development, I use Google fonts. After the site is almost created, I download them and change them.

For me the better way is to fix the design rules with the client before starting to create something.

Choice of colors, fonts, etc. And, uploading the custom fonts in Bricks, of course

Thanks @clickfusion63 and @Sebastien!

I see that both of you are uploading Google Fonts as Custom Fonts to load directly from the server, rather than Google Fonts API.

Do you that because you noticed a slow loading speed when loading fronts through Google Fonts API?

Thanks,
Matt

TL;DR:
Using Google Fonts is a safe choice with minimal difference. For optimization, consider using a system font like Arial that doesn’t require loading.

Thank you, @Casper_P.

I think that concludes the topic.

Unless someone would like to prove WP Rocket and their research wrong with their findings?

I use self-hosting Google Fonts, not for a performance question, but only to be GDPR compliance. :fr: :slightly_smiling_face:

To get my site closer to 99/99 in Pagespeed Insights, I always use fonts locally. If you don’t need 99/99, then you can from Google Fonts. An article advertising a plugin is one piece of information, but the experience of bringing it to fruition is another piece of information. I also recommend reading the comments there, many who disagree with the advertising article.
