Focus styling help

When this popup opens the first h3 is automatically focused and is outlined. The styles are set up for :focus-visible which I thought was for keyboard focus only. Any suggestions of how to prevent the focus outline on popup open but keep keyboard tab focus styles?

My first a-tag in my mobile Off Canvas is automatically focused – which does not look good. what can I do to disable this?
