Feedback for components: Editing property text in the main panel

You don’t seem to be able to edit text based properties in the main panel - you’re forced to use the left hand sidebar. It would be great if these were editable like normal text elements in the rest of bricks. It breaks the mental model a bit as it is.

Hi @brendyn,

I’m not sure I understand this one. Can you maybe record a video, or give some screenshots, that would help me understand what exactly you mean?

Thank you.

Sorry for the slow reply - on summer holidays here. Here’s a video

Hi @brendyn,

thank you for the video. I understand now, but I think it makes sense to keep it like it is. One reason being that you can use one property on multiple controls, and if you would click on one (like on the header in your example), the user would expect that it would change only there. But it could change in many more places.

So, I think keeping the editing from only the properties panel makes sense.

Sorry more summer holidaying…

I can see that point of view. However, many times we’ll be making one property per element. E.g. Heading, sub heading, description text, button text etc. Since we let clients into the builder, I guarantee that they will wonder why it works one way for some things and a different way for others.

This might be too much technicality but it could be possible to enable a toggle switch (off by default) that allowed editing the value in the canvas?

Hey @brendyn,

yeah, I get that. We talked briefly about this internally, but for now, it will work like it’s working currently.

I get why you would need/want that, but it’s a bit harder to find the best logic to implement this.
