DUPLICATE: Templates become non-manipulable: can't save or delete certain elements, menu not appearing

Browser: Chrome 110
OS: macOS / Windows / Linux / etc.

I often save large structures or entire page structures as templates. This allows me to easily build extensive pages and then reproduce them and populate them with alternative content. Periodically elements become “non manipulable” and “not copiable or deletable” in Bricks, as a right-click does not bring up the bricks menu as seen in screenshot 1 but a generic browser menu as can be seen screenshot 2. This then leads to the problem affecting the entire structure although it will only affect one element within the structure. I can often work around this by finding the exact element which is causing the issue and removing it from the structure and hiding it by merging it with the background. I can still manipulate it however it is not deletable. This or may not be may be connected to doing something unforeseen. However, I am encountering this quite often and it undermines my workflow. Also, I am getting several pages loading useless elements that I can’t delete. This seems to have little effect on the front end.

Has anyone else encountered this before?

[Please describe this bug in as much detail as possible so we can replicate & debug this bug]

Hi John,
Thanks so much for your report!

There are currently problems with saving templates because the element IDs are not updated correctly, and the structure is partially destroyed, making the elements no longer editable. I am pretty sure that this is causing your problem.

Unfortunately, as this is a relatively complex bug, we have not yet been able to provide a solution, but we are still working on it.

Yeah… in different scenarios, but the root cause is the same.

  1. WIP: Image jumps out of place on import of template with same section - #2 by timmse
  2. DUPLICATE: Same IDs in elements when duplicating a template
  3. DUPLICATE: Template corrupt after inserting a second time
  4. DUPLICATE: Same IDs in elements when duplicating a template
  5. DUPLICATE: Pop up mix new update
  6. WIP: Form redirect error in popup

I’ll add your report to the existing task :v:

Best regards,
timmse
