So as a new beta version of Automatic.css has been rolled out, it now fully supports Bricks builder. Only problem is, that the style guide feature, which can be seen in the following video, doesn’t work at all:
So I spoke with Kevin (the creator of the plug-in) about this feature, but it seems like it’s on your end rather than on them - see the following picture:
I get you and I think that @digitalgravy is in touch with the team about this issue.
At the same time @jagge72 what do you use the Style Guide for anyway? First I thought, “what a cool thing to have!”, but after a while I realized that I don’t use it at all.
Personally I think it’s a fantastic addition to any client’s site.
Any branding expert I’ve worked with has very rarely provided much beyond colours, fonts and a logo.
It’s extremely rare to find branding guidelines that also illustrate spacing, variable font sizes, shadows etc.
I like the idea of clients being able to refer anyone to their styleguide, even if they’re my web-design successor.
Well, it’s very nice to see all your design guidelines on one neat page. Also this page updates when a change is made inside the ACSS system. What’s even cooler is that this style guide page is responsive, which means that all texts, spacings, grids etc. can be tested on this page.
And that’s not all…Automatic.css announced that they’ll have a click to copy feature on the style guide, which means you can easily copy the classes and variables and use them in your design, for an instant responsive page.
I guess I don’t really like two things when it comes to style guide:
It isn’t helping when you have a different color system (or art direction) than the intended primary, secondary and so on that’s like “the only right way to do colors” with current ACSS.
As @jagge72 mentioned, everything is responsive and an effect of complex calculations. I don’t think you can call it “guidelines”, especially something to show to a client.
Don’t get me wrong, I have ACSS and love to use it because of the classes and variables that make everything consistent (AND out of the box CSS grid, of course!). I just add more stuff to the color variables and don’t bother that much about values not falling into something like 4 or 8 px grid guides.
I’d love to see more customization options for colors, and maybe some form of rounding for values produced by calculations.
Yeah I see where you’re coming from with ACSS’s “my way or the highway” approach, and I’m sure I’ll run into problems with that at some point.
I definitely intend to embellish the style guide with more definite values for (essentially the breakpoint values written into the dashboard, and each of the other values calculated at each breakpoint) and I’m writing a little script to display the dynamic values for everything else as well. The current guide is just eye-candy without the values it’s all based upon.
This should hopefully provide plenty of wow factor for the client, and give anyone using other tools that aren’t integrated with ACSS a definitive set of guides. I’ll share the script when it’s done, if anyone else would find it useful.
