ASE Pro Media Categories now work in the Bricks Media Browser 🗂️

If you use Admin Site Enhancements Pro, you’ve probably noticed its Media Categories don’t show up in the new Bricks media browser. Bricks 2.4 only ships folder support for HappyFiles.

The good news is that Bricks 2.4 added a way for other plugins to plug into that folder sidebar. So I put together a small snippet that connects ASE’s Media Categories to it.

Once it’s active, inside the builder you can:

  • :white_check_mark: Browse your ASE media categories in the sidebar
  • :white_check_mark: Upload straight into the category you have open
  • :white_check_mark: Drag images between categories
  • :white_check_mark: Create, rename, nest and delete categories
  • :white_check_mark: Use the “Uncategorized” view to find unsorted files

Everything stays in ASE’s own categories. Nothing is copied or moved anywhere else, so turning the snippet off simply puts things back to normal.

One less plugin :feather:
This is the part I like most. ASE already handles media categories, and it also has a built-in Code Snippets manager. So you don’t need a separate folder plugin or a separate snippets plugin. The whole thing runs inside ASE, which makes your plugin stack lighter: fewer plugins to update, fewer licenses to renew, and less weight on the site. I deactivated HappyFiles after switching over.

What you need:

  • Bricks 2.4 or newer
  • ASE Pro with Media Categories turned on

How to add it:

  1. In ASE, go to Code Snippets and add a new PHP snippet.
  2. Paste the code and activate it.

That’s it. The code is written without backslashes on purpose, because the ASE snippet editor strips them on save.

If HappyFiles is still active, the snippet tells Bricks to use the ASE categories instead.

I tested it on a live site and it’s working well for me. Let me know if you run into anything! :raising_hands:
