If the component contains nestable elements, it will create orphaned elements after unlinking and deleting them. The gif below is for a nestable accordion, but it also happens for dropdown, nestable tabs and sliders.

It’s such a pain to follow since you don’t know where it starts, you can’t pause and so on…
Back to business: I can replicate the issue once I deleted the unlinked component.
