WIP: Paragraph, heading, list spacing removed in Gutenberg editor

With “Disable Bricks theme styles in the block editor” toggled off (as is the default on the website I’m working on) the spacing of elements is removed in Gutenberg.

In Bricks, I use the contextual spacing feature - I guess it doesn’t play well with Gutenberg?

As an aside, how best to handle unwanted styles such as the grey background?

Bonus question: How is the “Use theme styles” in Gutenberg supposed to affect all of this? When I toggle it on and off with the “Disable Bricks theme styles in the block editor” toggled on, the font sizes change.

Thanks Jamie.
I was able to reproduce this: when “Remove default margins” is configured under Theme Styles → Contextual spacing, the margins are removed in Gutenberg, but the replacement contextual spacing isn’t applied. I’ve added it to our internal bug tracker.

For now, enable “Disable Bricks theme styles in the block editor,” save, and reload the editor. This also excludes any background set through Bricks Theme Styles.

Gutenberg’s “Use theme styles” is a separate WordPress preference. It switches between WordPress editor styles, so font sizes can still change even when Bricks Theme Styles are disabled.

The grey background may also come from your Bricks Theme Style. Please check Theme Styles → General → Site background. Enabling “Disable Bricks theme styles in the block editor” and reloading should remove it if that’s the source, while preserving the frontend background.

Best regards,
Matej

Thanks Matej

The grey background comes from the site background. I have disabled bricks theme styles in the block editor on all our sites since we don’t really need it.

@Matej Unfortunately enabling “Disable Bricks theme styles in the block editor” has caused links in Gutenberg to be styled the same as regular text (no colour or underline). This was reported previously and apparently fixed. Not sure if there is a regression here.

Is a fix coming soon? I currently have to choose between messed up paragraph styles or the inability to see links :grimacing:

Which version of Bricks you are on? Can you test the latest one, is it the same?

I’m on the latest 2.4.2 and have “Disable Bricks theme styles in the block editor” toggled on. In that setup, links are the same style as normal text whereas what I expect is blue and underlined like the WordPress default. If I toggle that option off, I get the styles applied from the front-end but with the contextual spacing and background colour issues.

Hey @jamie,

I replicate that one as well and I’ve added it to our internal bug tracker. Thank you
